As someone who has watched both of the first movies, I actually really enjoyed this one! The reason people are pressed/disappointed was because it was supposed to be a movie that would answer all of our questions as to what would’ve happened on day one (which it was meant to be a prequel). I had to agree on that factor, it didn’t answer any questions at all. However, if this movie hadn’t had the word “prequel” labelled on it. I think it would’ve done well. The actors were amazing, completely had me hooked the whole way. I got connected to the characters really quickly, both Eric and Sam had a lot of friendship development which I really liked and also were just great altogether.
*SPOILERS*
In the one-star reviews people were saying the movie was really predictable, which I disagree on. “Omg, they went to the docks in a massive group. Of course, they were going to get caught”. Put yourself in the characters shoes, “Groups = Safety” which is what us as humanity have established for a long time! I myself would rather to be in that group of people then by myself trying to get to the docks.
Another thing, to the people who were like “why the hell is she going to get pizza when the world is ending”, which to be fair where my thoughts at first, as well. When you think about, day one of the invasion, people were thinking “this is my last day alive”. Sam, is terminally ill. She had already accepted that she is going to die sooner than everyone else LONG BEFORE this all happened. So, when the invasion DID happen, that factor didn’t change like it did to everyone else. So, before she died, she wanted to get pizza like she once did with her dad before she accepted her ending. If she wasn’t terminally ill and her dad didn’t die, I would be thinking otherwise.
*END OF SPOILERS*
Overall, the movie could’ve been better since it was labelled a “prequel”. If it was a stand alone but in a different timeline, it was really good.
