First episode was painfully slow. They did improve as they went on in pacing at least, and the third episode was the better of them but it felt like there was no more than an hour to 90 minutes of stuff here. The random dreamlike pagan sequences were particularly drawn out and didnt add a lot.
The ad-lib style dialogue I guess was intended to be more natural but it doesn't work for me and ended up sounding just differently unrealistic and like a poorly acted amateur production. I just found it quite annoying.
The attempted humour also didn't really land with me, some of the dialogue and phraseology just sounding suspiciously modern. In a similar vein it was irritating to me to see all the plucked eyebrows and weirdly multi-cultural populace given the supposed historical nature of this. Production companies just don't seem to be able to help themselves these days - wanting to tick all the boxes. It would be nice if they could just try to do something vaguely believable sometimes.
This wasn't for me and I couldn't recommend.
