I've given this a lot of thought. Although, I don't hate this movie, I definitely wasn't super impressed and can totally understand why it bombed at the box office.
***SPOILERS***
I watched this with my significant other who had never seen any prior Crow movie. Having fresh eyes really helped. There was very little explanation in general with this movie. Who is Eric? Who is Shelly? Who is this "demon" that slipped into this world? How did he enter in the first place? Did he have help? If so, by whom? Who is this group that he surrounds himself with? He's said he's been on earth for a very long time. I would have loved a back story on that!
What was up with this in between world? Who was the guy patrolling it? I'm guessing he once had the crow powers? If so, does that mean Eric has a chance to escape this in between place too?
Also, what's up with every time Eric gets into a large enough collection of water that he goes back to this in between place? The crow's weakness is the crow that follows him that acts as sort of a guide and an additional set of eyes for him. This was not mentioned at all!!!
Plus, Eric was a musician so it just threw me off how so much of it wasn't explained well.
The action sequences were absolutely thrilling and you really do feel for Eric here. However, given the exceedingly number of differences between the 2024 movie portrayal of Eric Draven and the 1994 version, I would have actually created a new identity for this version of the crow if the production team was insistent on the changes staying.
All in all, it was an ok movie but I thought it felt more like a Punisher movie than it did a Crow movie.
