Tolkien's writing always brought me back to an age with a vastly different moral ecology - where virtues like courage, loyalty, and self-sacrifice were appreciated. You don't see these in novels nowadays. Peter Jackson, being faithful to that, brought that out. The writers for this series made something else in the image of our current moral climate, which favours drama, bloodlust as entertainment, empty philosophizing, representation, diversity, and the like. It has the appearance of Middle-Earth, but is in fact completely distorted in spirit. Couldn't even finish the first episode.
