Seen the musical 3 times (Toronto, London, Broadway), read the book, etc. etc. Came here to say Octavia's Elphaba was the greatest most emotional portrayal in a film musical I've ever scene, and I've watched dozens and dozens over and over for more than 1/2 a century. Octavia and Ariana were able to emotionally expand upon (thanks to John Chu's extensive facial close ups) the great but necessarily expressively limited performances both actresses Idina and Kristin brought to the stage 2 full decades ago. I won't go into the profound allegorical parallels of the story to how truly repugnant and tragic our world political situation has become. I'll save that for another day. Go see this film...
