This movie should not be rated PG for sure, it’s a story about a girl named Mei that starts off innocent enough. She lies to her parents, sneaks out of the house, lusts after a boy, shows her hiding under her bed being aroused drawing sexual pictures of her and an older boy from a small grocery store, and she even attacks her own mother... that’s not even covering the way she is twerking in the movie as a 13 year old child spanking herself. Although there was definitely plenty of opportunities with the set up of this movie to teach life lessons, however the direction it went was her mother apologizing to her, zero repercussion for this bad behavior and then at the end things are better than ever reinforcing the bad behavior she portrayed in the movie was actually a good thing, then at the very end of the movie her mom says she can’t leave the house like that and she tells her mother “my panda my rules.” This was clearly “my body my rules” pushing that a 13 year old girl should have undisputed control of how she wants to present herself regardless of what her parents think is appropriate. I would have gave it zero stars if I could have. Definitely should be a PG-13 movie, it’s not appropriate for all ages and shame on Disney for misleading parents into thinking this movie is appropriate to let small children watch.
