There is such a range of talent on this show. It is very different from The Voice and American Idol. I think the majority of the performers have a career to some extent. The stage presence varies drastically, some are all-out pros in every aspect, and at least one a complete novice. The majority seem to have a good deal of stage performance experience. I have disagreed drastically with the Jury on 2 of the 3 episodes. The audience votes are more in-line with my own.
Kelly Clarkson is trying really hard to be energetic and positive, but a live show has to be difficult. Snoop Dogg adds nothing to the show, unless you count drug references. Kelly seems genuine as she can be in situations that can be a very awkward. For instance, when the last performer lands in last place of a long list.
There are several great performers, most of whom you've probably never heard of. The second episode was lackluster compared with some breakout performances in episode one. Episode three was entertaining, but I disagreed with the Jury selection. I give the song a 7 at best. Several others had me singing along and were far more enjoyable. Maybe the jury is biased toward country music.
I think the show can succeed with some revisions, especially ditching Snoop Dogg for a real host, maybe Donny Osmond or someone with at least a sense of humor that isn't drug related.
The sound mixing is way off. You can hardly hear the vocals on most of the songs! Major fail.
I read other comments about the contest should be only new performers. I disagree. If this is trying to mirror Eurovision, they are on track with it. It is weird and someone degrading however, for Michael Bolton, Jewel, and Macy Gray to public watch them land lower than a bunch of unknowns. I really liked Macy Gray's song and I have never liked her before. Happy that the audience pulled Michael Bolton through. Jewel's song was pretty, but it didn't know what it wanted to be.
