I spent 90 minutes waiting for the girlfriend to return so she could be inadvertently murdered. I was not disappointed. I imagine a room full of Hollywood execs decided once again a psychological film with a real plot would just be too much work and that trotting out the supernatural, complete with a biblical reference would be the ticket to boxoffice success.
