Not gonna lie, I doubted this sequel right from the start. The original Inside Out is probably my favorite Pixar movie of all time, and considering some of the “meh” movies both Disney and Pixar have put out in the past couple years, I was very concerned.
However, this movie was a pleasant surprise! In fact, I loved it. Such a powerful message about anxiety and self doubt, which I can relate to in so many ways. The importance of living and being happy in the moment silently shines through, and the message of every emotion, good and bad, must be balanced to make us who we are.
What really made me fall in love with the original movie was the creativity. Such a unique concept, compelling story, and memorable characters! And the sequel delivers on that again. Riley’s mind feels familiar yet new, and the 4 new emotions are all very likable. Even anxiety, who acts as the main antagonist, worked great. Especially when she realizes she’s unintentionally hurting Riley more so than helping her. Great character growth.
Overall this is probably the best Pixar sequel since Toy Story 3. Really really enjoyable, equally as creative and emotional, and certainly memorable. Well done Pixar!
