Spoiler warning. I've watched this movie three times and each time I see something new. Imagine filming a dinner party with ad-libbed dialog several times and then cutting the scenes and sequence together from each filming. That is what happens in this movie. An infinite number of dinner parties with variations of the same characters is what we are supposed to be watching. It is easy to be confused because we feel like we are most always watching the same characters. But a single sequence of conversation can be cut together from two different dinner parties. In one seemingly continuous sequence, the character Hugh is seen with and without a bandaid over his eye. Worse than that, in the original collection of characters, Mike's recollection of Laurie being a yoga instructor is incorrect but later Laurie talks about being a yoga instructor. Thus, we realize that in the original arrival of characters the switching has already started. By the end of the movie Mike and Em have realized what is happening and Em decides to go into "dark area" over and over until she arrives in a timeline where no one has left the house and Em and Maury are still a couple. What happens after that still has me confused. I'm unsure of which Emily we are left with and who is on the phone. Maybe we have three versions of Emily locked into one reality. Going to have to watch a fourth time.
