A masterpiece on par with Nolan’s Batman’s. The Joker is a delusional narcissist, this film suggests, not only through dialogue and plot, but the aesthetic choice to surround each moment with symphony. Joker’s perspective: that he is the only one in the world who is enlightened enough to get the joke” of reality, his tendency to view all others as extensions of himself, his tendency to villainize good men like Thomas Wayne, and not see the weird wicked things he does as bad, all show him to be a perfect narcissist through and through. He is the center of the universe—even the chaos at the end is a result of his actions in his own mind. Wow. We get to see what is behind the kind of criminal who justifies his actions with the view that he is the only one who matters, and so what applies to him must apply to everyone else too. I LOVE the acting too, what a masterpiece.
