I started watching this show because Netflix recommended it because I enjoyed Big Mouth and this was also “critically acclaimed.” I imagine if you enjoy this show you are the begrudged, self-centered father character it is written for. I was only able to watch one episode before the blandness of the plot became too boring to tolerate, even if I was curious to watch the train wreck continue. I understand the purpose here was the vibe of the 70s, but if the best of 70s for you were racism, domestic abuse, and the great reign of the White Father Guy… well, good luck Charlie. The second female character ever mentioned is called “loose” before she’s ever seen and she’s a teenager. Every character on screen so far has been white or pretty close to just tan, although I heard from other reviews that we get plenty of POC representation through the ramped racism later. I dare these writers to make a joke that doesn’t contain conflict, racism, or misogyny. I don’t care if this show is about the 70s— there are ~groovier~ things to reminisce on than what this show highlights. BOO! Get better nostalgia.
