An amazing piece of work! As a woman who grew up through sitcom-palooza, I've cringed my way through watching sitcom wives deal with their over-the-top husbands, wondering how the heck they could keep from murdering them in their sleep. Finally, we get to see the other side. This is for all the Jill Tanners, Marge Simpsons, and Edith Bunkers who were truly at the mercy of the misogyny of the writers. There is a dark side to the bright lights and the laugh track and this show nails it perfectly.
It's almost like Kevin and friends live in a Twilight Zone episode where he really can't do any wrong and every problem he has gets wrapped up five minutes before the show ends -- While his wife, Allison, is the first to wake up and realize she's a sitcom wife and decides to escape her fate by killing her husband. Her actions slowly pulls everyone else into reality with her. Strong Pleasantville vibes with a little Good Girls thrown in.
Annie Murphy is *brilliant*.
