Poor.
To equate this movie with the great psychological horrors, like Silence of the Lambs/ Se7en is an injustice. The influence of these cinematic titans is clear. However, Longlegs falls short of eliciting true fear.
The plot is paper thin with no convolutions ergo, predictable. The prosthetics are ridiculous, bordering on school project. They do not invoke fear, in fact, they promote disbelief (even humour). The main character seems bland, her mannerisms borrowed from Clarice Starling but doesn’t hit the mark. The colour palette is a washed out grey, contributing to a general feeling of suppression. The music is jarring.
The inability to create mystique and real depth for the main characters results in a flop.
The hype was simply hot air. We are not fully lead into psychological darkness.
