I really loved the first one, which I did watch not too long ago for the first time; that's why I believe I have a good understanding of the comparison. It's not that great. Fan of the series should wait until you are able to rent it. Just watch it if you want, the CGI artwork is pretty similar to the first one which was good; but this one's story wasn't as existing as the origin story.
