This is the first movie review I have ever posted, but I felt obliged to join those who are sharing their love of this film. I am a fan of kaiju cinema and the Godzilla franchise and I can confidently say Minus One is easily the best movie in the franchise. It is also one of the best films I have recently seen, full stop. Minus One absolutely humbles any of American editions of Godzilla. The way that the monster itself is shot instills a primal fear and the emotional human story at the core of this film is unrivaled by its predecessors. All this at less than a tenth of the budget of the most recent Monsterverse movies. I found myself deeply invested in the characters; laughing along with their dark humor, even crying along with their pain of loss, and definitely terrified along with their bone deep horror of destruction manifested in the form of a giant menacing kaiju. Long story short, Minus One is the best of Godzilla and the best of Japanese film, or any film for that matter, that’s been made the past couple decades.
