I loved this movie. Granted, it's an easy movie for me to love, because as a kid, I was obsessed with KISS, and Parliment Funkadelic, Casablanca records was the coolest label in the world to us back then, and the Film's subject, Neal Bogart, is one of the most important record men in the history of the business. Seeing the real stories behind a massive part of the tracklist of my life was tremendously good fun for me, and will be for a lot of people like me.
The movie was brilliantly acted, shot & directed... creatively edited... the soundtrack is obviously unimpeachable - Kiss, Donna Summer, Bill Withers, and Parliment Funkadelic (Wiz Khalifa is a joy to watch as George Clinton).
Further...outside of my love of the film for musically emotional reasons, it provides evidence of an important lesson - especially for those in the world of creative entrepreneurship, which is to say... trust your instincts, follow your dreams, invest your time and money into the right people and right things for the right reasons, and that patience will ultimately pay off. For example, KISS and Donna Summer did NOT connect as expected when they were first released... but Neal Bogart and his crew stuck with them over years of trials... until finally it happened.. and it didn't happen by accident... there wasn't a 'TikTok' to randomly discover them... Casablanca MADE it happen by sticking with their artists, and being relentlessly creative in their approach to bringing their vision to market.
That for me is one of the most important aspects of the film. The reminder and evidence to believe in yourself, and stick to your beliefs.
Thank you to the Bogart family for making this film.
