Only came across Hanrahan last year when The Sword Defiant was released. Both Defiant and The Sword Unbound were excellent. No spoilers here. The way the plot weaves from side to side has the result of making the reader walk in Aelfric's boots many times. What exactly IS going on? What/who is evil? Who/ what is good?
The moral complexity of The Black Company, high fantasy tropes both pure and darkly twisted, along with a nod to Excalibur, The Sword Unbound kept me reading late, and unsure of the answers until the very end. "Let the spells be broken"? Yes, but let Hanrahan's talent be eternal.
