Was looking forward to this when heard Tina Fey was involved but a stereotypical jewish mother as a lead character is just not that relatable to the whole US and wider population unless it's done in a way that makes it more universal somehow so I'm not sure if it was really ultimately going to succeed. There are some funny things here, some good comedy writing in places and some characters are pretty enjoyable but mostly supporting characters; the daughter character in the lead is kind of one dimensional and flat. Something about this show doesn't quite come together entirely. It's not all bad but I would definitely not agree at all with another reviewer who said it was "firing on all cylinders". I think that person needs to see a wider range of high quality television...Also, it seems like a lot of the reviews here are from a man's perspective which does not constitute an "audience" sampling.
