The Substance is a strange and disgusting film with some great moments !! I went with no idea of the amount of horror in this, so just be warned!! I did love most of the film, BUT (and there is a big BUT).....there was just way too much blood, gore and horror which was totally unnecessary so it lost me in the last 15 mins . This actually made me feel so angry as I had liked the film up to that point and left totally perplexed It had some really serious points which were explored from an interesting perspective of the pressures that some women feel to remain youthful and beautiful The audience were laughing at the end as it was just so OTT. It will definitely split audiences , but its not for the light-hearted..

Disappointing mish mash of a film.I like creative and unusual plot lines and have enjoyed WA s films but found this really boring and it just felt like there was no plot line of any kind.Beautifully constructed sets and cinematography with an amazing array of actors, but for Mre it didn't go anywhere .
