It didn't meet my expectations. I'm glad we have something else to watch, but it doesn't hold a candle to Memphis Belle IMO. Austin Butler is still in Elvis character, the CGI is really bad, and you just can't substitute mock up planes for the real deal. I don't know how on Earth you operate on the budget they were given and can't do something that's as good or better than something that was made in 1990. And I'm not some boomer who thinks the all the original 1960 & 70 WWII films "can't be beat". The remake of Midway was outstanding. And there's no way you could do something like that without CGI. It can be done, but this series seems like a big mess. I can't relate to any of the characters, so much drinking and tomfoolery early on. We deserve better, and the vets deserve better. And that's not to mention the token Tuskegee men they're throwing in later because of the new Heimeywood diversity laws (you don't qualify for any awards unless you have a "diverse" cast). All the greats are truly behind us... Memphis Belle, BoB, The Pacific, all "racist" by their current standards. Incredibly sad.
*** Update after finishing the entire series and obtaining new info from people on the set ***
There were no chin turrets on the B-17G models as the show progressed (or the Cheyenne tail turrets, but I could live the the latter). Was informed by people working on the set the CGI team was ready to do the transition, but the director said they "didn't think it was important" and left the chin turrets off the mock up planes and CGI. A travesty.
On episode 5 the star Rosenthal's plane "Royal Flush" takes off without the red outline around the national insignia on their chin-less turret B-17G, and land with red outlined national insignia. And I believe there were .30 cal shell casings around Babyfaces turret in episode 3 before Quinn tries to help out. There is no excuse in the world for this ridiculousness-- it's cheap, it's lazy, and whoever is responsible needs to get out of the film industry.
