It’s a very good story, one of the best In my opinion. That being said, it’s a good *story*, not as much a good *book*. It’s very well written and some scenes got my blood pumping, but unfortunately that’s buried by hours upon hours of every little detail about whaling, or just random feeling tangents, such as Ishmael pauses the story he’s telling, to tell the story of the time he told a story to some Spanish guys about a story he heard about a mutiny.
I love the characters, there’s a reason Ahab is such a cornerstone of modern characters, and the rest of the crew is equally as flushed out, save Ishmael. Other than I’d say the first few chapters Ishmael feels like a complete non character, to the point he stops being a point of view and just becomes a Greek Chorus.
