Rewatching this again I feel so moved. This series is beautiful, emotional, spiritual, and educational all in one. The imagery and ode to traditional martial arts married with the teachings of peace, respect, and unity is perfect for a child to watch and learn from. I always wanted to be the Avatar growing up and as an adult I see why. I could write an essay on how complete this series is, even down to the music! Every character has an arc, from Zuko's path to good, to Iroh's quest for redemption is powerful. Even watching Azula's slow descent to madness as she loses those around herself I find to be just as important and subtly morose. This show does this all whilst retaining a childlike whimsicality and even a mature sense of humour. What a show.
