Rise of Gru is what was advertised, has a great story, has some funny tie ins to the minions movie, is what I was expecting when watching but sadly not what I was hoping for. In the original movie it is made clear Gru had a childhood dream of going to the moon. This is only lightly hinted at towards the end of the movie, but I wish it was hinted at more consistently through the movie, in the school scenes and in his bedroom decor at least. This is just one small nitpick, but there were a few other things that also bothered me. the movie also seemed more goofy than the despicable me films if that makes sense. Putting those things aside, this is a great kids movie that follows the lore of the minions film. Tons of laughs (this one kid in the back row kept laughing at all the butt jokes, it was hilarious), lots of fun new characters, and of course, more of the minions. The kids are obsessed with minions. So if plot inconsistencies wont bother you or your kids, I would absolutely recommend!
