A beautifully written account of the pain of being an undocumented family in NYC . Hunger is a constant companion for this family . Wang's descriptive writing really gave me the feeling of a kid in a candy shop , who can see treats all around , but who is too poor to partake in any of it
I have read many books about the immigrant experience .But this book glosses over nothing & details the day to day survival of the families young daughter, as she yearns to realize the American dream . I could almost feel the pangs of hunger as I trad this book .
