It wasn’t bad; but wasn’t good either and I feel like is the weakest of the GoTG series. It felt like the producers were confused as to which tones it wanted to hit- so they tried to hit them all stretched out the thin plot as much as possible. One minute is filled with depressing animal torture, then the next it’s off to the mandatory levity with that classic guardians of the galaxy banter set to nostalgic music (all of which was already shown in the trailers). But wait! Then it’s right back to more animal torture - and repeat until nearly the third act of the movie. The repetitiveness made it feel like there was a lot of filler - like maybe the script started as ‘the guardians save rocket’ like it were just a long episode of a Disney+ series that never was, with rocket’s flashbacks thrown in every ten minutes or so to make this a feature length movie. Don’t get me wrong- It was good learning more about Rocket’s back story, but we learnt little about Adam Warlock, had little character development for Mantis and her relationship with her newfound brother, or much of any new growth for Drax beyond how they grew in the holiday special or reiterating things established in previous GoTG installments (his role as a dad). It had its entertaining moments; however of the three I think it’s the weakest.
