Before this show, I'd mostly seen Bill Hader on SNL and my overall impression was that even though he was funny his performances seemed to be limited to annoying characters that I never found to be very entertaining. Recently I've heard good things about the show Barry so I thought I'd give it a try. Once I started watching, I couldn't stop. The plot mixes Barry's world of his life as a hitman which he is struggling to break free of with his world as an actor who falls in love with one of his fellow students. The owner/instructor of the acting school is a talented jerk but is a role model for Barry. Most of the characters have a mix of flaws and strengths and good and evil which keeps you engaged with stability and unpredictability at the same time. Barry is a very conflicted character who's connections in his criminal life keep pulling him in for "one more job" and it seems he's never able to make a clean break from his past and become the man he really wants to be. There is plenty of dark humor, tragedy, and corny but funny moments all cohesively intertwined in the plot in a skillful manner.
