Watched “Me Vasantrao” in a cinema theatre in my city yesterday. I am watching a movie in theatre after some years. The fact that Marathi is not my mother tongue didn’t deter me because having stayed in Mumbai for some years in the 80s and 90s I can understand Marathi very well though I may not be able to converse very fluently and effectively. And I still have many Maharashtrian friends with whom I continue to share a good rapport.
Music has been my weakness all along. Lataji, Rafi saab, Dasettan are all close to my heart. Even though I have not learnt music conventionally, I am a melophile, a serious one at that (though music runs in the family – my mother, sister, niece being exceptionally good singers!!!).
I have been hearing Rahul Deshpande from 2014 or so when one of my friends forwarded a bandish sung by Rahul & Mahesh kale. Since then, I have been following Rahul and I have realized the enormous potential this young man has not to speak of his very rich lineage, his humility and his sincere and down to earth persona. Like many others I too have been eagerly waiting for this musical extravaganza, “Me Vasantrao” where he has put his heart and soul out in portraying his own grand father the late Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande. I must say that the film is a treat for music lovers. 180 minutes passed without a winker of boredom. It is an experience of sheer ecstasy where you drench yourself in the sea of divine music.
Kudos to the entire team including the Director, Producer and the entire Cast & Crew.
