Typically I watch Lawrence's show every night, however the show last night (comparing Afghan to Viet Nam) was very difficult for me to watch. For those of us that "lived" the Viet Nam conflict, we see it a bit differently. Lawrence stated he was among those that protested the Viet Nam war. (pain that will be seared in the Viet Nam GI's minds forever.) Yes, we were all against it.........but most protestors put the blame personally on the troops back then. They were spat upon, cursed, criticized......and worse of all.....they never received a proper "welcome home" (for those that were lucky enough to return). It's taken many decades for those GI's to get over the treatment they received. I had bad feelings surfacing once again last night after all these years. The only things the two have in commons is they were both mistakes..........and we withdrew from both. But the average American attitudes do not have any similarities whatsoever. That was a different time......in a different world. Please do not consider this defeat "worse" than Viet Nam. These GI's will return to their country with honor. The Viet Nam GI's did not. This is my opinion only.
