A few hours ago, I watched "The Boy and the Heron," directed by Hayao Miyazaki, in the theater. I was super excited because I'm a big fan of Hayao Miyazaki, and this was my first time watching an anime in the theatre.
When the "STUDIO GHIBLI" logo appeared, my anticipation went through the roof.
The story was okay, but compared to Miyazaki's other films that I've watched multiple times, it didn't quite reach the same level. The plot was fresh, but it lacked the strong pull that usually captivates fans and immerses them in the movie.
Despite this, you could clearly see the hard work put into each scene. Every moment was crafted magically, creating a visually stunning experience.
However, I wished there was a bit more emotion portrayed in the mother and son relationship. It would have added a deeper layer to the storyline.
I also felt the music could have been better. Overall, I'd say it's a movie you should definitely check out, but it's not Miyazaki's absolute best work.
