This movie is definitely not for everyone and it’s definitely not for every occasion. This film is best described as fluff with a bit of depth. It’s cute, sweet, adorable, hopeful, but it’s also intelligent, funny, and clever. It has some interesting things to say about how older generations interact with the world today. The challenges they can face that coincide with the challenges young people face. The performances are all excellent with an experienced cast. I’ve always loved Anne Hathaway, she’s amazing in every roll. Robert de Niro’s character is what really makes this movie work. And the two together are the non-romantic pairing I never knew I needed. It’s not too dramatic or heavy, which is exactly what I needed when I watched it the first time. But there are a few moments that might make you tear-up. There are two reasons I took a star away: There are some pacing issues that made the ending feel like it wasn’t an ending and the few spots of hokey “uplifting” music were annoying and didn’t fit the tone. That kind of music needs to end. But I love this movie and recommend it to anyone who needs a short, sweet little pick-me-up.

Excellent, excellent show. Wonderful performances all around. Fantastic dialogue. Great music. Intriguing story. But, most importantly; the BEST stand up comedy in a TV show. EVER! I’ve seen people say the third season is all over the place, rushed, doesn’t know what it wants or where to go. But I don’t think those people understand season 3. They’re on the road, things are picking up, it’s show business! It’s fast, it’s all over the place and, yeah, when you’re not used to it it can seem rushed. I also see people talk about how Miriam fails to grow as a human being. But I think those people also do not understand Miriam. She is as she is and you can either accept that or gtfo. Miriam has a lot of flaws. She’s learned from some but has yet to learn from others. And maybe she’ll never learn from some of them because, guess what: most of us will never get over our flaws. That’s probably the ‘life’ part in portraying the lives of characters that are supposed to be human. Some even say Miriam gets everything she wants. And yes, she and Susie both work magic with their words like they rolled a natural 20 on persuasion. But Miriam’s own words also cost her the things she wants which is an interesting a very well-done dilemma. Plus there is one area where Miriam never seems to win; her family. It’s so painfully obvious she wants her parents to be proud of her and she’s sad that they’re not. Of course she is, her family is important to her. I have a feeling the series won’t end until they come around. I love watching these characters go through their unique grinds. I care about them all, I want them to do well and I feel devastated when they don’t. I cry when they cry, because the performances are so moving. And, when they stop trying to hide the fact that they’re not all okay, I really really feel it. My only issue with season 3 is... really?!? 8 episodes?!? Are you kidding me!!!!! (screams and faints from lack of oxygen to the brain) Anyway, yeah. This is one of my top shows of all time. Can’t wait for more!

There has never been a show that changes so fluidly as The Good Place. Most shows introduce a big twist and several changes in dynamic and circumstances and they fail. They fall apart and loose the plot. But this one is crafted so masterfully the changes don’t make the entire show feel different, they feel like second nature and the show just wouldn’t be the same without them. The humour in the show doesn’t always make me laugh, but I’m particular when it comes to humour. The stellar cast combined with excellent writing and pacing make this one of the most well-crafted and entertaining shows I’ve ever seen.

I’m upset with myself that I didn’t watch this movie sooner. But then I might not have appreciated it as much as I do now. There’s not much I don’t like about it. The performances are outstanding, there are no sore thumbs here. Chastain is brilliant, Elba is excellent, Costner oddly brings some of the only raw emotion which I thought was a wonderful idea. Especially as Molly’s father was a source of much tension and, likely, resulted in her being analytical and straigh-to-the-point, preferring to focus on winning than being sad about her losses. I’ve seen a couple old reviews that criticized the lack of a love life on Molly’s part. This is a stupid criticism and, I suspect, an expression of desire to see Chastain half naked in bed. There was no denial that Molly had romantic interests during the times depicted, but at no point were they focussed on. Why? Because they meant nothing to the story. The filmmakers wisely decided to leave out any depictions of a relationship that could have unnecessarily weighed the plot down. And good on them for doing it. This movie keeps a steady pace and barely slows for more than a moment. For some I can see this being tiresome. But it works. It flows from start to finish like a finely tuned machine and every part of that machine helps it move forward. And that’s exactly what Molly, as a character, does; she never stops moving forward. Regardless of obstacles. That’s the entire point. This movie is great and I recommend it to anyone.
