I really liked parts of this book. The characters are cool and the dialogue between them is really fun. The story line is pretty good too. However, for me personally, Lowe, the love interest, falls into a classic trope of what I like to call a narcissistic sacrifice. I don’t want to give anything about the book away in case you want to read it (bc it was a pretty good read) so let’s say he did a light version of an Edward Collin. The whole I know what’s best for her and it’s not me. So even though I’ve gotten her hopes up that I am romantically interested in her, I will now do a complete 180 and gaslight her into thinking she was never that important to me. Can’t stand it personally, and I just can’t ever understand why writers do it. You have was such a great male character who seems mature, fully capable of expressing himself and able to see and value their partner as an equal just to have him try and coddle his partner instead of actually protecting her and he hurts her in the process. Grinds my gears.
