I have listened to both "Ascendant" and "Unbound" By Michael R. Miller through Audible, Narrated by Peter Kenny and I will be privileged to review my thoughts without spoilers.
Continuing from the events of book one, 'Ascendant', the story follows the two main protagonist's individual challenges and growths with the threats rising on all sides. Bonds take more than just a link of the soul as this tale reveals the acts and consequences of haste and recklessness.
Everything is in chaos. And in a delightful surprise, a third perspective is given following our antagonist as we learn more through suspense and... chilling horror the true hatred and cruelty of our primary villain, and just what he will do to those unworthy...
This also is NOT The conclusion of the story. It is far too deep in it's story arcs to end with many questions lingering with the plot only growing thicker. From the Rider's Order to the Scourage, to 'Sovereign' and the political kingdoms. This tale only reveals more pieces of the puzzle and the mission Holt is given is far from complete.
In conclusion; I personally have enjoyed this story and cannot wait for the third tale. I would hope it will have one or two more books in detail to wrap up this epic tale.
I have previously in my earlier years read and listened to the Inheritance Cycle, and this? Is definitely fresh and thrilling with a balance in it's magic system. The rising struggles of a bond and impurities and maintenance to keep the flow.
Anyone who wishes for a good Fantasy with Dragons, character growth and a deep story-rich plot and world? I would recommend this definitely.
