Whilst some tales in the memoir were quite interesting there was no real depth to it. With so little emotion, reflection or evaluation it was hard to feel you got to know the writer at all.. The quality of the writing did not help to engage me. It was often repetitive and made some sweeping statements, presented as social fact, that are not more than the author's opinion. I am sure she probably was a feisty woman who was trapped by being born in the wrong family & era. born at a particular time and situation
