If you're looking for a Georgian era Downton Abbey style period drama, don't bother, it's really not that. Shane Meadows and his Players are phenomenal nonetheless. There's a raw message in this tale, a Robin Hood story in sack cloth with lashings of historically inaccurate language. A huge F you to the economy of then AND now. The 50/50 divide in opinions of this programme really highlight this. My mother would hate it. She'd be refusing to pay her licence fee but I absolutely loved it all.
