I’m trying hard to like this show, but it is soooo boring. I thought it was supposed to be about catching a particularly nasty serial killer, but that seems secondary or even tertiary to the boring life of the aloholic female lead, and the strange sexually charged relationship between the nun and the young priest. Nothing in this show seems grounded in real life, and don’t even get me started on Niecy Nash Betts’ wardrobe. I actually fell asleep during the latest episode and have twice tried to go back and watch it only to fall asleep again- that’s how boring it is.

This is pure pop confection that I didn’t expect from Beck. That isn’t a bad thing, it’s a rather fun catchy album although some of the lyrics are trite and at times almost feel like a parody of a pop song. Songs like Colors and Dreams can likely get people jumping on the dance floor, although in my mind I imagine a choreographed line dance from a bad 80’s movie. Overall even with its flaws it’s an enjoyable album.

This quickly became my most played album and still is a year after its release. I read some complaints that it isn’t as good as her earlier albums Goddess and The Altar, but I disagree. It’s every bit as good and in some ways better, but it is different and some people don’t like change. Serpentina for me is a natural progression of her music that really started with her previous album III. The only reason I don’t give Serpentina 5 stars is the overproduction of some of the songs. She has an amazing voice and doesn’t need all the electronic effects.
