Rachel Maddow gives an approach to the news not found elsewhere. She is original, incisive in her commentary, humorous when humor is called for, and refreshingly honest. Is she biased? Of course—every commentator is; otherwise the news would be a dry reading of facts. Is she sometimes wrong? Of course. Everyone is, but compare her wit to another commentator’s screaming “this is worse than Watergate!” Her delivery is calm, often understated, compassionate, and brings a touch of what is needed. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing—at 9 PM I’m in front of the set because she is not to be missed. It’s the news, yes, but it’s much, much more. That’s why it’s not called “The news, read by Rachel Maddow,” but rather “The Rachel Maddow Show,” and it’s a show I hope to be watching for many years to come.
