We were hoping that the new Bond movie was going to be worth returning to the movie theater and a fun antidote to the depressing news of the day.
Not so much...
The title sequence and song were unimpressive and unusually boring for a Bond movie. It felt like an omen.
I felt as if most of the action sequences were cut and pasted from earlier movies, with no really surprising moments.
The villains weren't really all that villainous enough to be interesting.
Spoiler: Bond dies at the end (seemingly for the purpose of giving Daniel Craig an emotional farewell to the franchise) but which is weirdly inconsistent with the historical theme of Bond movies: that Bond can overcome any threat with cleverness, magical technology or sheer chutzpah. Disappointing and unnecessary.
I doubt if there will be a lot of re-watching of this entry....
