Someone once suggested me to watch small scale movies in theatres. True, because often such small budget movies without any star studded cast usually go unnoticed even if they are brilliant. What makes Malayalam cinema different is the space for such small movies. There is always a space for experiments and bold moves. Golam is one such movie that takes a lot of risks. With a plot that reminds you of Agatha Christie's works, Golam's strength lies in its writing, execution and a solid first half. It also resembles Yavanika in terms of the Rashomon effect and a workplace setting. All said, the second half does falter a bit with the quick reveal of the suspense. But it's redeemed by the execution of the 'how' and 'why'. Personally, I loved the foreshadowing and extreme details in the first act which tied up towards the final reveal. Eagerly looking forward to the sequel.
