I was completely looking forward to watching the movie after having listened to the songs. Vathikkalu Vellaripravu had me absolutely enraptured with its cinematography, costume and set design. Just 10 minutes into the movie, I found the script dragged and also that the entire movie could've been edited to 20 minutes.
The chemistry between Dev Mohan (Sufi) and Aditi Rao was palpable but besides the usual song montage there isn't anything that suggests how their relationship grew into them eventually wanting to get married. While visually, Anu Moothedath's camera creates poetry on screen, that's all we're left with. What about Sufi makes Sujata cling on to him for so many years? Beyond exchanging earnest puppy glances and uttering some generic philosophy, there's nothing much that happens between them. It seems fast paced and forced at best. Jayasurya's acting was impressive as always even though it seems like an extended cameo.
The thing that really got on my nerves was that they included scenes of Sujata dancing to the azan (call to prayer) which was sacrilegious and absolutely unnecessary. Imagine the outrage that would be sparked if a movie included even a few seconds of an actor twerking to a Hindu bhajan. This movie really could've done without this scene.
