Although some may be disappointed that the exact thought process of the perpetrator of this tragedy wasn’t explained- this is what makes it particularly intriguing and realistic. Instead the viewer is given a glimpse into the lives of teenagers and the circumstances that might contribute to this “perfect storm” of tragedy.
The parents in the show are generally oblivious to what is really happening -which is also realistic as teens typically tend to seek out their peers rather than parents to confide in. Lack of supervision, mental health issues, parental negligence/emotional abuse, gross excess and drug use are all contributing factors- but in the end no one can really know what goes on inside someone’s mind and that is what this show gets right.
The title - Quicksand- is the perfect description of what everyone but the protagonist can see happening- emotional quicksand and sinking fast.
