I was heart broken to hear why Mr Snyder could not finish Justice League ( Inna lillahi wa inna ilahe raji'un dear Autumn).
After The Avengers triumph I was ecstatic to hear Joss Whedon was going to finish the film. I have been a fan since Buffy - although there have been hiccups (Alien Resurrection?!). 'JL' was OK. There was only so much you can do when you have not been involved in the process from the start. I liked the humour but it didn't sit right in a 'dark' film. Plus, introducing so many characters in one film was probably too much.
Now we have the 'Directors cut'. It is a better film and more coherent but it is simply too long. Yes, we needed the time to flesh out the characters but like I said - too many characters! Also, it was too dark, too violent (there were deaths and blood splattered everywhere) - it is superhero film after all, and what the f' with the... um... F's?! Darkseid didn't really have much to do - a waste. The way it was built up I expected a lot more than what we got.
Don't get me wrong, I am glad we saw the 'Snyder' cut... I don't like studios meddling with a director's vision.
Now DC/Warner Bros need to get there act together and do some serious Universe building. They need a 'Feige' - a visionary who knows what he is doing. They have such great characters but need to believe in their characters and have a coherent plan...
