*Spoiler alert* A film that has so much potential but in the end, completely contradicts itself.
The positives: beautiful cinematography, serene locations, compelling performances from the entire cast, and an excellent (anti)climatic scene at Oliver's parent's house.
The problem: Up until the second-to-last scene, we are led to believe that Oliver is in love with Felix and his passion led to his murder. But all of sudden, we're given a "twist" that Oliver didn't care about Felix at all but only cared about the family estate, and quite frankly, it was very unconvincing. There is simply too much sexual tension and innuendos for us to now think it was all a "ruse", and the film betrays our expectations because Oliver has not indicated a real interest in the estate up until that point. I understand that the film is all about teasing what we want, but what it gave us instead was uncompelling and irrational. If anything, it would make a lot more sense if he brought in his own family to replace the names and roles with him as the patriarch.
