I watched last night and was so drawn in. I interpreted it as the most terrifying thing in the world is having your rights taken away from you. Realizing there was a choice, but that you were denied that choice. Realizing that you do not have autonomy over your own life. I appreciate the complexity of the story having female characters aware of what's going on and choosing to stay with it because they enjoy (the facade of) being the house wife, the traditional values, because of being able to have a life within the victory project that they don't have in the real world.
