The 1 star reviews on this documentary are extremely telling of how needed this documentary is. Some reviews complain that the documentarian is too personal, even attacking the victim's character for not "getting over" the abuses suffered - despite this being a very candid example of how trauma affects the lifelong sense of self. Some are prison guards complaining that they could've 'Really shown them a hard time', despite jail being described as a heavenly reprieve for some the kids who were granted the opportunity. Some are even parents that had sent their children to these institutions, likely trying to paint a picture of the 'one bad apple', despite the many institutionalized deaths and suicides rendering the point moot. It truly highlights the ignorance that this docu-series aims to expose, as frankly it will be a lifetime challenge for these lovely people to "get over" what happened to them. Incredible work.
