Utter rubbish…
There was a clear prejudice to the mixed-race woman.
There was an irresponsible attempt at showcasing racism/colourism, and was not executed well at all (was that their intention or was it to make mixed-race women look bad?)
The mother treated her children terribly, but the focus was too heavily on race. Why did the mother flee? Because the ex-partner was abusive, so when and why did it become about colour? Confusing.
At first, I was feeling sorry for the two older children who were abandoned. Soon after, I felt uncomfortable and awkward watching their unrealistic psychotic outbursts - what’s with the daughter carrying around that stuffed animal?! Surely, if they were that unwell, they would not be able to hide this from society or their other friends/family so would not be able to freely traipse up and down to terrorise the family as they would need medical attention? Just so unrealistic.
It was a shame to see the dark skinned characters act so aggressively. They had every right to be hurt and angry, but why did they have to be the most extreme case psychotic? I suppose this was a conscious reflection of it being the mixed-race mother’s fault - another attempt at painting mixed-race women in a bad light.
How the two older children managed to hold a family of four hostage is beyond me. I expected the mother to ask for help at the door when tipping the delivery driver - that would have been a far more realistic ending.
Not worth the watch.
