I found this book painfully dull to get through. I was forced to read it for school, and my experience may have been tainted, on account of the fact that George Orwell was a rapist, racist, and a colonial officer, so keep that in mind. I know it’s important to separate the author from the literature, but that is hard to do, especially when the author is this bad of a person. I was never personally engaged while reading, instead just thinking, wow that’s authoritarian… crazy. Winston was also extremely unlikeable, which you probably ought to avoid, when you want the reader to sympathise with his conditions. Just not a very exciting book overall, but not quite boring enough to warrant a 1 star.
