I just want to say this book is not a romance and does touch on sensitive topics.
SPOILERS
Despite the book being very fast faced, I thouroughly enjoyed the characters and their complexities, the romantisization of the characters at the beginning gives the reader a connection to them which did wreck me in many ways. The characters are not perfect, and for many people, hard to understand which is why many people dislike the book.
I understood that lily has trauma causing her to forgive Ryle many times and ignoring the many red flags at the beginning. But I enjoyed this aspect as it is more realistic but at the end she still trusts Ryle with her child which I don’t understand; whether Ryle is going to do anything to the child or not, lily cannot risk it. Ryle needs therapy and healing still.
I like that lily and atlas end up, a small way of cheering readers up from that heartbreak, but very cliché?
I hate Ryle yet I respect that he has the awareness to understand what he has done. He is an abuser yet I sympathize that he is willing to improve!
The book broke me in so many ways and I grew a new perspective on people who go through this. I know this is not what everyone experiences yet it allowed to me understand why. I love the humanizing? In the book for all the character’s!
