Although this movie could have put more emphasis on the lived experiences of Sonam's character from adolescent to adulthood and how her love developed with her girlfriend, this movie sheds a light on the complexity of same-sex relationships in the context of non-Western cultures. There's a sense of shame, reputation, and cultural norms that many Western or white-only films cannot capture.
