The amount of bugs and glitches that it had when it came out, as well as the many issues it still has make me unable to give it a better score. The way story is confusing, and not fleshed out well especially without the dlc. It is a pretty game with some great visuals however that does not make up for everything else. And I really am upset at how little they gave the animatronics to do in the base game; And I am quite peeved on how little Vanny is utilized as a character and gameplay mechanic. Honestly it feels like she should be the main antagonist of the game and yet fluffing MAP BOT has more screen presence. Even mini music man feels like he gets more screen time than her. Even darn Simon Says appears more often than she does, whyyyyyyy ):
I can see the game still had work to be done on it and its current state is one far from truly being complete. So them releasing the game when they clearly knew it was in such an awful state is another reason for the poor review. Vanny didn’t show up in her main ending, the party pass bots disappeared, and comedy bit told no jokes; It was released very unfinished. There were plenty of arcade games which were clearly meant to be played becuase of their odd placement and messages refrencing them. We were almost certainly going to be able to race on Roxy’s track, since the track is completely shown on the map, and Roxy’s current suicidal actions don’t make much sense.
I like parts of the gameplay, I had fun sneaking past animatronics and staff bots while using and studying the cameras. But then any immersion I had would eventually crash and burn when Chika uses instant transmission on me. I know she went up the escalators, I watched her on the cameras and on my eyes, but it doesn’t matter because she ended up 2 feet behind me. And I know logically she teleported because as far as I am aware she is not a ghost. So she either ran past me and posed or she held a birthday party for Gohan at some point. Any tension just poofs away when you know there’s no way they got behind you that fast when you knew their last known location through the cameras. And it sucks because the Pizzaplex is one of the most immersive locations I’ve ever been in. So it really feels bad to get broken out so easily.
Okay I went on for a while on that but I still want to talk about Vanny. I wanted her to do more stuff, wanted to have her feel more present in the story. Like I would have loved it if Vanny was the one to turn the lights off in the daycare. You wouldn’t have had to change that much either I think. Just have her turn off the lights when the badge gets stolen like normal, then during the lost and found science have her comment on it. Like “Did you have a cozy dream?” (I never said I could write dialogue, don’t bite me) just something to hint at her involvement and boom, it feels like she is twice as integrated into the story and gameplay with just that. I really like her idea and more moments like that I feel could have really made her feel more tangible; And the mystery of Vanny would have been more interesting to the player, becuase she would have actually done things that affect the story and gameplay. Even if it was just through dialogue hinting at actions we don’t see.
